The pilot Yu Yureka flash sale in India was out of stock in three seconds.
The company had made available 10,000 units of the device, for which
300,000 people had registered, testifying the huge demand for the
Cyanogen OS-based 4G smartphone. Predictably, the lucky few who managed
to get a hold of the device, are now selling it at a premium on sites
like eBay India and Quikr.
The Yu Yureka is officially priced at Rs 8,999, but is being sold on
eBay India for as high as Rs 19,999 on eBay India. The device was also
being sold on Quikr for as high as Rs 13,999. To curb black marketing,
Amazon kept just a 15-minute window for users to purchase the device.
After the 15-minute deadline, the device would be removed from the
user’s carts, and shifted to other interested buyers, who put themselves
on the ‘Waitlist’.
By the looks of it, people are now purchasing the device from Amazon,
and then selling the sealed unopened pack that will be then delivered
to interested buyers at a premium. It is interesting to note, that no
one has posted an ad on OLX as yet. This is similar to what has been happening after all pilot flash sales of Xiaomi smartphones.
To recap on the specifications, the Yu Yureka sports a 5.5-inch HD
IPS display, and is powered by a Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor with
64-bit capability and paired with 2GB of RAM. The smartphone also
features 16GB internal storage that can be further expanded using a
microSD card.
Furthermore, the smartphone also features a 13-megapixel rear camera,
5-megapixel front-facing camera, and a 2,500mAh battery. On the
software front, it runs on Cyanogen OS 11 based on Android KitKat.
